The National Homicide Service
If you have been bereaved because of a crime, you may be referred to the National Homicide Service by your Family Liaison Officer (FLO). The National Homicide Service supports people who have been bereaved by murder or manslaughter. Homicide Service Caseworkers can provide support in a number of ways, including:
- practical information around processes that happen after a bereavement by homicide
- emotional support and a space to talk
- help to understand and navigate the criminal justice system
- support with agencies in relation to your bereavement
- contributions toward the financial costs of attending a trial
- support to consider and meet the needs of bereaved children and young people
- access to peer support
- information about the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme
- help with immediate needs, such as accessing financial assistance
- providing help through trusted partner services including bereavement and/or trauma counselling, restorative justice, debt, legal and housing advice
The Homicide Service can give you information about the police, coroner, and all the other parts of the criminal justice system that become involved after a homicide.
If you feel you need further support after being bereaved by murder or manslaughter, you can contact the Homicide Service directly on 0300 303 1984 or ask your police FLO to make a referral on your behalf.
If English is not your first language and you would like support, interpreters can be provided in your preferred language. You can also call the service via the Relay UK app and Convo (formerly SignLive (BSL)).
