Illustration of the court building from the street with the same door and accessible ramp. The yellow car now has two people inside. Clickable question marks over the car and the court building door. A purple navigation menu along the bottom of the illustration has options “Outside court”, “Security”, “Waiting room”, “Courtrooms”, “Live link rooms” and “After court” in white font.

Going home

Giving evidence can take a lot of energy and effort and you may feel tired or drained afterwards. You can speak to the adult you came to court with – your parent, carer or guardian – or the Witness Service supporter if you feel you need further support.

Use the play button below to read aloud.

After you've given your evidence

When you’ve finished giving your evidence, your role as a witness has ended. The magistrate or district judge will thank you and say you’re released, meaning you’re free to go.

At this point you can leave the court building and go home, or you can return to the witness waiting area to speak to a Witness Service supporter if you need support or need to talk.
